Happy Birthday Kole!

The order:

1 Dozen Vanilla cupcakes with vanilla buttercream

1 Dozen Chocolate cupcakes with vanilla buttercream

Our new customer Melinda contacted us last week about having cupcakes made for her son's birthday party. She was checking out the website and gave us a call to see if we would be able to help...and how could we say no? She told us the theme was Chica the Chicken from SproutTV. At the time, I had no idea who he was or what he looked like...but that's ok, that's what google is for!

Once I got the picture down , I printed out a few to make cupcake pics, along with dreaming up ideas of how to make a cupcake look like Chica. Into the kitchen we went early Saturday morning - the cupcakes were baked, frosting was prepped.

For the chocolate cupcake, they were just done in pretty swirls, topped with color coordinated sprinkles and the cupcake pics. They were boxed up and ready to go.

Also customized toppers that said Happy Birthday Kole!

Then came time to make Chica. This was a little bit tougher...Chica is very 3d. I made an attempt to make his face on the top of the cupcake, but really didn't like how it turned out - so much so that I didn't even take a picture of it because it looked ridiculous. Next time I'll take pictures.

In thinking about what to do and studying the picture - a predominant feature to me was the top of his head - a red mohawk against a copper color.

So to make the mohawk, I used the tip that is typically used for flower petals, stiffened the icing with some extra powdered sugar, and started my hand at making a mohawk.

How do you think they turned out?

I love them! Once they were done, Melinda came to pick them up and that is where we found out that she found us through google! So thank you Melinda for taking a chance with us!
