Basic Cake Decorating: 1st Class

On Saturday, I attended the first of three cake decorating classes. Overly excited does not even describe it. Since this first class was a basic introductory class, we really went over what we were going to be learning, we got our list of materials that we needed (along with a 10% discount YEAH!), and did some basic work with standard decorating tips - #16 and #21. (Note: Check out Wilton's Cake Decorating book http://www.amazon.com/Wilton-902-904-Decorating-Cakes-Book/dp/B0006ZR1L0) The pictures are amazing and it makes me want to bake and decorate cakes all day long. Like seriously. The instructor is also very good - she's "real" in what she says and her advice. I loved listening to her and forgot a notebook (bad I know, but we weren't given our supplies list til that day), and wrote all over the papers they handed out. To do for this week:

  • Make 20 parchment bags

  • Make 2 cakes (one for me, one for Steph)

  • Make 6 batches of buttercream icing (2 stiff, 2 medium, 2 thin)

  • Practice, practice, practice

  • Pack supplies bag and organize it :)

This week we will be doing a floral spray cake - stay tuned for pictures!
